'Bowline'

A knot to create a secure loop which can be undone after loading. Use for attaching sheets to the headsail and for mooring lines.

'Clove Hitch'

Use for attaching fenders to guard rails. Also can be used for mooring lines.

'Round Turn and Two Half-hitches'

Can be used to attach fenders to guard rails. Also useful for attaching mooring lines to rings, posts or ladders. Advantage that it can be undone when under load.

'Reef Knot'

You probably tie you shoe-laces with a double slipped reef knot. Start as you would you laces and then repeat. Right over left and under, left over right and under. Only use for joining two ends of the same line.

'The Rolling Hitch'

To get a grip on another line. Useful for creating slack in a line to free up a riding turn or other problem.

'Sheet Bend'

For joining two lines. For example to extend a mooring line or painter. Double sheet bend is usually better.
